When Should I Replace My Old Water Heater?

Water heaters are designed to last for quite a while, especially with proper care and maintenance. Eventually, though, there will come a point where your water heater just won’t be able to keep up any more. At that point, you should replace it with a new system. Loss of Efficiency
If you put enough demand on the water heater for a long enough period of time, you will eventually overwhelm it and have to wait for more water to be heated. However, as a water heater gets older, the efficiency of the system will drop. It will become easier and easier for the system to be outpaced by demand, until eventually it just can’t produce enough hot water for something as simple as a shower. If your water heater is struggling to provide enough hot water for you, it may be because you need a new one.

Repairs Go Up
As long as you are sure to schedule annual maintenance, you should only rarely need to schedule repair services for the system. Older water heaters have far more wear and tear on them, though, and are far more likely to have groups of parts break down at once. If your water heater needs repairs every couple of months, you almost certainly should replace it. You’re already replacing it one part at a time at that point, anyway, and it would be far cheaper just to install a brand new system.
