Why You Should Consider a Heat Pump this Summer

Traditional home cooling systems are a good way to keep comfortable during the summer, but they are not the only methods available. Heat pumps are a great alternative for homeowners looking for a different option to the typical air conditioning system. Why bother switching to a heat pump, though? There are a couple of different reasons. First, let’s take a look at what a heat pump actually is. Then, we’ll discuss the advantages of using one over other air conditioning options.
What Is a Heat Pump?
A heat pump is a device very similar to an air conditioner. It is a split system, which means one half of the unit is installed inside the home and the other is installed outside. It uses refrigerant to move heat from inside the home outside in order to cool it, just as air conditioners do. The major difference between the two of them is that a heat pump can actually reverse the flow of refrigerant through its system. This is done through a part called the “reversing valve.” The advantages of doing this will be outlined below.
The Advantages of Heat Pumps
So if a heat pump is more or less the same as an air conditioner, why is it preferable? Well, that one difference makes a pretty big difference, in the long run. Being able to reverse the flow of refrigerant actually allows the heat pump to act as a heater, as well as an air conditioner. By installing a heat pump, you can save both money and space instead of installing a separate heater. This is a huge economic benefit.
