Hissing
Hissing and gurgling sounds indicate that air bubbles have formed in your ductless system’s refrigerant line. This means that there’s a leak somewhere in your system. Refrigerant is integral to the operation of the ductless system. Without it, the system would not be able to absorb and release heat in order to cool your home. So, a refrigerant leak is a serious threat to the health of your ductless mini split.
Grinding
Each air handler that your ductless mini split uses is outfitted with a series of oiled bearings. These are designed to reduce the amount of friction on the system during operation. These bearings wear down over time, causing the friction on the air handler to increase. This will cause a loud grinding sound to come from the air handler. If you hear this sound, call for repairs before the air handler burns itself out.
Short Cycling
Short cycling is when your ductless system turns itself on and off every few minutes continuously. It could be caused by a faulty thermostat, or a problem with the compressor. What’s important, though, is that it’s a huge threat to your system. If it’s not dealt with, it could shorten the lifespan of your ductless mini split significantly.
